Toothache is the clearest sign of a problem in oral health, teeth or gums. There is a reason for the sensitivity or pain in the teeth. It is the form of pain that you should not forget. You must take precautions as soon as possible.

Causes of a toothache

The pain may be caused by gums or bone. Initially, the source of pain should be determined. The most common cause of toothache is usually tooth decay due to insufficient oral care. There may not always be constant pain, but there is a sensitivity to hot and cold foods and beverages. Such sensitivities and pains may indicate problems such as cracked filling, broken teeth, gum recession.

Toothache caused by cavity

The cavities that begin to form in tooth enamel do not cause pain, because there is no nerve in the enamel. If cavity gets larger and starts to affect the dentin layer, it reaches the nerves. Pain can occur when eating or you can experience constant pain. If you have a toothache that prevents you from eating, this is a symptom of infection. If you have symptoms such as swelling and throbbing, that means the infection is pressing the nerves and veins. In this case, you first use the antibiotic recommended by your dentist. Then your dentist starts treatment. The pressure in the tooth is reduced and the canal treatment is applied.

How to stop your toothache?

You should not expect toothache to stop by itself. Although painkillers temporarily relieve pain, using too often painkillers can be harmful to the body. Patients generally prefer methods such as using cloves, aspirin, alcohol and garlic to deal with toothache. But I don’t recommend these methods, which provide instant relief, because they damage the teeth and intraoral soft tissues.

Here some dos to deal with toothache

  • Brush your teeth with warm water and use dental floss.
  • You can use a painkiller previously recommended by your dentist.
  • Don’t put on the tooth cloves, aspirin, alcohol and garlic etc.
  • If there is swelling, apply cold compress.
  • Gargle with saltwater will reduce pain and disinfect the open infection.
  • If the pain occurs while you are sleeping, raise your pillow.

Before you take any pain-relief steps, call your dentist for an appointment as soon as possible. Only the dentist can diagnose tooth pain and choose the right treatment.
